A complex strategy game favored by the nobility of Kaern and used as a teaching tool for military strategists. It mimics the tactical depth of war, using specialized pieces and dice mechanics.
Player-Facing Rules & Mechanics
Overview The game is played in 5 rounds split into two phases: Setup (2 rounds) and Battle (3 rounds). Players use a pool of Strategy Dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12) to influence the outcome.
Resolution Each round, players select one Strategy Die from their pool to roll (adding the result as a Strategy Bonus). They then roll an Intelligence check + Proficiency (if applicable) + Strategy Bonus + Tactics Bonus.
Phases
- Setup (Rounds 1-2): Played for Positional Advantage. Winning both rounds grants Advantage on a Battle Phase check.
- Battle (Rounds 3-5):
- Round 3 (The Attack): Winner gets +5 Tactics Bonus for the rest of the game.
- Round 4 (The Rally): Winner gets +5 Tactics Bonus for the final round (does not stack with Round 3).
- Round 5 (The Final Stand): Determines the victor.
Victory Conditions (Checkmate)
- Beat opponent's score by 25+ in ANY round.
- Beat opponent's score by 5+ in the Final Stand.
Draw Conditions
- Tie score in any Battle round (Stalemate).
- No victory condition met after Round 5.
