Araqiel The Big Man Zoval

From Astral Arcline
Araqiel The Big Man Zoval
TagsNPCs, NPC, Villain, ToTB, Kaern

The dark empyrean, and child of Suyome. Secret leader of the guild halls, and ultimate advisor to the order of Magnus. Being the head of a media empire and an information network would make a lot of sense. His cajones would be based on Spain, and would thus likely be from Subir.

  • Serves Suyome's designs on Kaern.
  • His very existence violates the god pact that prevents deities from harboring influence on the material plane. His birth was the reason Throng the Allfather banned gods having children, and thus punished Celine for her insolence.
  • Owns the relay at Andragora's Spire
  • From Tarratacia, the flying city
  • His current form was turned to be Aah'Too the flumph

Zoval is the main villain of the Tale of Two Blades. Like his mother, his is primary strength is his acquistion of knowledge. His prime objective is to destroy the current working order of the gods, and to usher in a new age with himself as god-emperor.

Villainy

Schemes

  • Plans to empower Encriadine with the power of Folg so that it will be unchallenged. He can then destroy the gods, including Tharizdun, and then use the power absorbed from the current gods to destroy N’yograthon and protect the world from the Forgotten ones to attain enough popularity to become God-Emperor.

Methods

  • Zoval’s strength is his information network. With it, he is able to infiltrate key organizations across the world. For example, recruiting Azrael Valis secured a way for Zoval to acquire most of the collected pieces of the memoria septim.
  • Zoval’s network and connections to the Royal Sage Academy gives him access to key teleportation access as well as contacts to help source magical items and consumables.

Weakness

  • Zoval’s primary weakness is his arrogance - the fact that he believes he has all the information, and thus cannot be surprised.

Personal

Occupation(s) & History

  • Like Kerachin Akintos, one of Zoval’s formative memories is finding out he was the son of Suyome. She would connect with him and give him information about the world, which led to rapid advancement in his pursuits.
  • During his time at the Royal Sage Academy, Zoval eventually rose in the ranks because of his talents, becoming a Sunburst of Magnus and the leader of Sven, the school of illusion. Because of his interested in divinity, he met with similarly minded individuals who formed the The True Heralds. Zoval took up the mantle as the enforcer of this secret society.
  • Some of the members of The True Heralds became suspicious about the ease at which Zoval was able to make breakthroughs in areas of divine study. At the same time, Zoval began to show a disatisfaction with the way his mother and the other gods were keeping divinity stagnant. Suyome picked up on this and began to doubt if telling her son everything she had would result in a direct challenge to the gods. She brought this issue to Throng, who freaked out and established the rules against gods having children.
  • In order to counteract Zoval’s plans to acquire and empower Encriadine, Suyome established her contingency plans - securing the asset she most needed to challenge her son (or anyone who posed a threat to the gods - N’yograthon. Nyograthon (and the olds ones) are the only creatures that would be able to undermine the exalted Encriadine, since Folg’s true purpose was to destroy this threat. This would un-exalt the blade and possibly shatter it, giving the gods the chance to shatter the blade once again and reestablish order.
  • Throng’s approach to the situation was to work out a deal with The True Heralds to exchange progress towards their ambitions for protection against Zoval. Ianfaren Silvaer agreed to the terms and the group derived a plan where Zoval’s soul was trapped in the body of a flumph. Zoval’s true empyrean form is kept under protection only by those who have taken the influence of the memoria inanis.
  • In spite of Zoval’s relative powerlessness as a flumph, he’s still managed project strength and establish an order around his objectives. Recently he was able to guide the research of Lord Saxton Codsbury, helped him to create “soul transfer device” when powered by power magical artifiacts. In truth, this is a soul link device, which connects the user with the target, allowing shared ownership of the bodies (as though they are one). This allows Zoval to tap into Saxton’s magic but also hide from detection as Aah'Too.

Appearance

  • Depending on the situation, Zoval’s current appearance likens that of the image of himself or Aah'Too the flumph. However, when projecting his form, he takes up the form of his empyrean body.
  • Telepathy (As Aah’Too)
  • Magic (as Saxton)
  • Influence (when projecting his power as the Big Man)

Talents

  • Zoval is a talented illusionist, diviner, and martial combatant.

Mannerisms

  • Zoval has a tendency towards theatrical, omnipresent presentation.
  • He enjoys intimidation, and also flexing on unwitting souls as a Flumph.

Interactions with Others

  • Zoval has a strained but tactical relationship with his mother. They’re both interested in each other’s schemes, so when they do talk their conversations resemble a game of chess.
  • Zoval has mutual respect for the other members of The True Heralds. He sees them as extensions of the god’s manipulations, and doesn’t harbor grudges towards them since they’re beneath him.
  • Zovals rhetoric as the Big Man has inspired people that feel weak and like the gods play favorites.

Ideals

  • Reforge the blade that gives mortals power over their own fate
  • Reform the world by overthrowing the gods
  • Reeducate the world by teaching them to hardness the power of their gods as their own

Bonds

  • Zoval has a special relationship with Suyome, whom he considers to be his equal, but outdated in her ideals.
  • Zoval has a deep respect for the other members of The True Heralds, since they are striving for improvements to the world in spite of their limited knowlege.

Flaws or Secrets

  • Zoval’s biggest secret is that he’s an empyrean, son of Suyome.
  • Zoval’s body is held in a prison guarded by one of the The True Heralds, the Ancient Gold Dragon, in the plane of Carceri. Ianfaren Silvaer knows about this. His spirit has managed to escape and is piloting the body of Aah'Too.
