Zask the Mask

From Astral Arcline
Zask the Mask
TagsNPCs, NPC, ToTB, Kaern

A mysterious figure in a tri-corn hat and brilliant cobalt-blue eyes, dressed in the dark leathers of a hunter. He claims to be an freelancing information broker and a taker of odd-jobs, but has been seen working in conjunction with many guild-hall operations.

  • Zask is an information broker, who is associated with an assassin’s guild, but is ultimately a free agent guided by his ancient stormblade.
  • Zask trades in information, and takes jobs for infiltration and elimination. While some would say he works for Dameon Yorrick “The Prospector”, and others would say he’s a member of the Guild Halls, the reality is that he’s a free agent.

Occupation(s) & History

Zask's adventuring career began with an accident. On a fateful night one midwinter's eve, he was heading on his way home from a market at night when a scuffle broke out in a nearby alley. By the time Zask went to the alley, the fight had ended. When Zask moved to investigate, he found the bodies of dying rogues bleeding out into the snow. Zask bent over what they were fighting over and discovered a long thin package. Opening it, he found inside a long, thin rapier of pure shadow. It was as if time stopped, and he felt a presence surrounding him, beckoning him to take up the blade.

And so he did.

The moment he did, he felt a presence enter his mind, as some extraplanar entity seeded itself into his back of his head. That's when he knew he'd achieve greatness one day.

Two days later, Zask woke up in a dark cell held a knifepoint by two rogues dressed like those that he'd seen in the snow. They demanded that he tell them what he'd done with the blade. Zask was confused since the rapier was right in front of him, but it looked mundane - no longer shrouded in stormy shadows. As Zask reached out for it the blade responded. Shadows began to form again. Frustrated the rogues left him in the dark, seemingly to rot to his death.

It was another three days before he got another visitor. This one introduced himself as Ferdinand, leader of the Lost Time Thieves Guild. He explained that Zask had accidentally bound himself to an artifact that was meant for a wealthy patron and that in doing so, he would have to work off his debt for the Lost Time by doing jobs for them. If he refused, they would kill him, and hope that this restored the magic to the blade. Zask agreed to these terms since they agreed to provide him with basic necessities and a small cut for personal spending. To help adjust his new life and to ensure that his family would forget about him, Zask took the form of a (bloodborne hunter outfit wearing) human with shining blue eyes.

In recent times, the guild has been making moves towards Farwater. Zask was made aware of an orb that was meant to be delivered to their outpost their by his trusted contact in the area, a halfling named Bevin Dalaran. Unfortunately, the orb never made it to Farwater, so Bevin has organized for a group of mercenaries to be formed under the name of the Minutemen to retrieve the orb. Zask, who is to accompany these mercenaries may be the only representative who is working for the Lost Time and knows that they are hunting for an orb. The rest of the group is just instructed to turn in any artifacts found in the natural cave system to the leader of the Minutemen, who is actually one of Bevin's bodyguards.
