A complex strategy game favored by the nobility of Kaern and used as a teaching tool for military strategists. It mimics the tactical depth of war, using specialized pieces and dice mechanics.

Player-Facing Rules & Mechanics

Overview The game is played in 5 rounds split into two phases: Setup (2 rounds) and Battle (3 rounds). Players use a pool of Strategy Dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12) to influence the outcome.

Resolution Each round, players select one Strategy Die from their pool to roll (adding the result as a Strategy Bonus). They then roll an Intelligence check + Proficiency (if applicable) + Strategy Bonus + Tactics Bonus.

Phases

  1. Setup (Rounds 1-2): Played for Positional Advantage. Winning both rounds grants Advantage on a Battle Phase check.
  2. Battle (Rounds 3-5):
      • Round 3 (The Attack): Winner gets +5 Tactics Bonus for the rest of the game.
      • Round 4 (The Rally): Winner gets +5 Tactics Bonus for the final round (does not stack with Round 3).
      • Round 5 (The Final Stand): Determines the victor.

Victory Conditions (Checkmate)

  • Beat opponent's score by 25+ in ANY round.
  • Beat opponent's score by 5+ in the Final Stand.

Draw Conditions

  • Tie score in any Battle round (Stalemate).
  • No victory condition met after Round 5.
