Description

  • The Age of Mortals marked the beginning of recorded history (and is thus the most recent Age). Year 0 through Year 1721 (modern-day), all fall within this Age. The world itself is theorized to be much older, but how old is unknown and difficult to determine. Prior to the Age of Mortals, history is largely theorized since there are no written records.
  • It is largely accepted that the world began when the gods created it, known as the Age of Origin. It is unknown how long it took to create, why it happened, or how.
  • Eventually, the gods began to compete for control of the world, beginning an era known as the Age of Gods. This ultimately lead to the cataclysmic event known as the First Sundering, where the world's landmass was shattered into tectonic plates - almost destroying the world altogether.
  • After the Age of Gods came the Age of Ancients, where the world was allowed to heal, and the gods focused on creating emissaries for their works on the material plane, known as the Empyreans, or children of the gods.
  • The Ancient ones guided the birth of civilizations in their image. All seemed well, but one god grew greedy - wanting the material plane as their own canvas. They began to merge their realm with the material plane, leading to a schism between the gods and starting the Age of Fire, a time of war, hardship, and the destruction of most of that which had been built.
  • The conflict between gods was eventually settled, beginning the Age of Rebirth. This is when the great pact was decided, which established that the world would be allowed to heal and that history would be guided through selected champions of the gods in a new age.
  • Since the beginning of the Age of Mortals, the Gods of Kaern have selected champions to do battle to determine which deity has the right to guide divinity and the growth of the material plane for the next 100 years.
  • The Age of Mortals began with the founded of the Sacred Ground on what is known today as Alamar Island.
  • The world prospered over the years, with the rise and fall of empires - first through physical dominance, then magical supremacy, and finally through the advancement of magitechnology.
  • Magitechnologies' growth eventually began to consume the world's mana faster than it was naturally being generated, leading to the collapse of magic itself. To solve this, God-King Adin created the Sword of Eternal Creation in 1389 AoM. No one really knows how this blade was able to transcend divinity but upon its creation, the gods took notice.
  • One of the gods forsook his divinity and crafted it into a blade of power, Ragnarok. He then took on a mortal form with his blade of divinity to restore divine sovereignty in the world.
  • Adin rose as a champion wielding the Sword of Eternal Creation and clashed with the avatar of a former god. When struck together, both blades were shattered in an event known know as the Second Sundering. The world was rocked to its core with the release of so much divine energy all at once, and natural disasters began across the globe.
  • Future champions have sought fragments of divinity to achieve divine ascension. Most recently, around 1420 AoM, Celine rose to divinity by defeating Ariana, the previous goddess of ice and wielder of a dual-blade called Frostbite, with her spear whose handle was forged from the hilt of the Blade of Eternal Creation.
  • The most recent battle of champions was won by a champion of the goddess of fire, Lucifine in 1620 AoM.
