Saint Markovia was a cleric of the Morninglord who ran an abbey and hospital in Krezk when Strahd von Zarovich first invaded Barovia. Immediately she took a stand against Strahd as a leader, and after his transformation into a vampire, she and her most loyal followers stormed Castle Ravenloft, only to be slain by Strahd.
