• The world itself began as a rift that spawned a bright purple flame in the middle of space.
• Finding the flame came creatures of the Beyond - the Forgotten Ones, who traveled amongst the stars corrupting rifts and using them as fuel to spread and dominate.
• The decade began as spirits of the flame, who separated to protect themselves - pushing the part of the power that fed the flame into a source, and a part that consumed the power into a sink. Thus began a stream of power that flowed from source to sink. This separation purified some of the power into concentrated bands of light that could be used to push back the Beyond.
• This purified power was arced away from the center of the rift in a protective ellipse. The ellipse was formed with 10 rings of purity, which would destroy the Beyond on contact. In the center of the ellipse formed a world of blue flame, upon which, the world was built.
• From these 10 spirits formed the first decade and the Edicts they agreed upon. The edicts were added to and refined over the ages, as new challenges arose.

The Edicts of the Decade

1. The decade is the one true pantheon of divine shepherds of Kaern, and your loyalty is to uphold the integrity and prosperity of the decade.
2. Thou shall not speak to others the binds and edicts of the decade.
3. Keep true to the centennial pact, for the prosperity of our world lies in the peaceful, stable transfer of power.
4. Only those that obey the Edicts may take the role of divine shepherd. As you take control of a domain, honor the wisdom and guidance of the ones who came before.
5. Thou shalt not use their power to kill.
6. Thou shalt not conspire to share, merge, or alter domains in any way that disrupts their atomic nature. The stability of the decade is imperative for our protection.
7. Thou shalt not take from the domains of other shepherds. Disputes of ownership will be first be reviewed by the Primus in the highest courts, and then reviewed by the decade itself for matters of worldly implication. The All-father will decide if a majority of the decade cannot determine a resolution.
8. Thou shalt not lie in the divine courts or spread falsehoods about other shepherds.
9. Should a member of the decade fall, their domain will be returned to Kaern until one worthy is found to restore the decade.
10. Should the decade fall, the world will be unmade else it become a breeding ground for the Beyond.
